  • Vilsack on Mexico: "Partner First, Customer Second"

    By USDEC March 22, 2017

In a 30-minute interview with Iowa Public Television, USDEC's president and CEO discusses his trip to Mexico and why "relationships matter."

PBS_Logo_PBS.pngFor more than four decades, Iowa Public Television's "Market to Market" has covered issues affecting the business of U.S. agriculture.

In its latest show, host Mike Pearson introduced a familiar guest this way:

"In Iowa, we call him former governor. Around the country, we call him former secretary. But today he is president and CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council."

Pearson's 30-minute interview with Tom Vilsack covered a variety of topics, including:

    • Vilsack's recent trip to Mexico with other U.S. dairy leaders and what it accomplished.
    • Modernizing NAFTA in a way that benefits both the United States and Mexico.
    • The problem of "geographic Indications" restricting the use of common dairy food names.
    • Appropriate and inappropriate uses of the term "milk."
    • The global movement from margarine back to butter.
    • The mission of the U.S. Dairy Export Council.
    • Vilsack's dairy product of choice at this year's Iowa State Fair.
