  • 6 new infographics show what USMCA does for the U.S. dairy industry

    By USDEC December 18, 2019

Benefits include preserving U.S. dairy access to Mexico, increasing access into Canada, protections for common cheese names and reforms to Canada’s dairy pricing system.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on Thursday, raising an obvious question dairy farmers and exporters need to know: What will USMCA do for us?

The U.S. Dairy Export Council and the National Milk Producers Federation have created six educational infographics that answer that question with words, images and data.

Among its benefits, USMCA preserves U.S. dairy access to Mexico, includes groundbreaking protections for common cheese names, makes important reforms to Canada’s dairy pricing system and provides additional market access to Canada.

A joint letter sent to Representatives and Senators last week summarized USMCA's benefits. USDEC President and CEO Tom Vilsack and NMPF President and CEO Jim Mulhern co-signed the letter, which notes that “passage of this trade agreement is critical to America's dairy industry.”

Vilsack spoke about the revised USMCA to RFD-TV in a 3.5-minute interview that can be viewed here.
